The 13th Annual Blues & Barbeque Shawnee Great Grillers State Championship is two days of smoking meat for fun and prizes at Shawnee Town. Up to 96 teams may enters for the competition Saturday, but beginning at 6 p.m. Friday is the party night for the teams, with music and slides and games for children. In addition to Saturday's competition, the public can judge the barbecue — and eat their fill — in the "People's Choice" competition for just $5 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Shawnee Sister Cities Committee will sponsor a drink and food booth and Hy-Vee is on site with food both days. The Shawnee Optimist Club again will serve a biscuits and gravy breakfast Saturday morning at 10 a.m.
