Riverview gets new role as ESL center
The De Soto USD 232 Board of Education Monday decided to make Riverview Elementary School a "center school" for ESL programs from other neighborhood elementary schools.
The move will localize materials and teachers, increasing services for students without increasing staff and costs for the program, said district ESL coordinator Debbie Taylor.
There will be about 20 students from Riverview, Clear Creek and Prairie Ridge schools in the ESL program next year, Taylor said. Riverview is the home school for more than half of those, so it was the natural choice for a base.
"Riverview was an ideal location simply because a majority of the students were already there," Taylor said. Students from the other two schools will attend Riverview instead until their English is proficient.
Taylor said transportation details had yet to be worked out but that time should be minimal because the schools are so close to each other.

Talking points
Do you know who you’re voting for in November?
“Chuck Baldwin; he’s the Constitutional Party candidate. It’s the only conservative choice on there, as far as I can tell.”
