Peggy Anne DeFries, 70, Edwardsville, died Sunday May 16, 2004, at Providence Medical Center in Kansas City, Kan. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Grinter Chapel Cemetery in Kansas City, Kan. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home, Bonner Springs. Memorial contributions may be made to Cancer Action of Kansas City, Kan., in care of the funeral home.

Mrs. DeFries was born Dec. 31, 1933, in Edwardsville. She recently celebrated her 52nd wedding anniversary on May 5 with her husband, Ted. She was a lifelong resident of Edwardsville and was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion Post #199 in Kansas City, Kan. She was a member of the Edwardsville Christian Church.

Survivors include her husband, Ted, of the home; two sons, Ted DeFries (Caron) of Kansas City, Kan., Terry DeFries (Tabatha) of Kansas City, Kan.; two daughters, Sue Black (Jay), Kansas City, Kan., Peggy Anne Scholl (Phil) of Kansas City, Kan.; two sisters, Patsy Dunn, Bonner Springs, and Jane McMillan, Edwardsville; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

“I almost never go there at all — only with my wife, Kim. She checks out, I’d say, at least three books a week. The kids go with her, and she teaches them how to find things.”
