Probe continues in killing
An investigation into Shawnee's first homicide in more than five years could lead to some action within the next 30 days by the Johnson County District Attorney's office, authorities say.
Although law enforcement officials wouldn't comment on what that action would be, District Attorney Paul Morrison said Monday that suspects have been identified in connection with the killing of William Jennings, 51, at his Shawnee home, located at 15910 W. 75th Terrace.
"We did meet last week with case officers and came up with a to-do list about what we want them to follow up on," Morrison said. "We're waiting on some forensics, so hopefully before too long we'll be able to make a decision on it."
No other details were available concerning the forensic testing, and neither the Shawnee Police Department nor the district attorney's office would comment Monday concerning the identity of suspects or any additional clues as to how Jennings was killed, where in the home his body was found or when he died.
"There's still quite a bit going on in that case," Morrison said.
Morrison said Monday that despite ongoing leads, his office could have something to act on within the next month.
"It's too early to lock in anything, but we're hoping in less than 30 days," he said.
Investigators have said that Jennings wasn't robbed before he was killed.
A friend found Jennings' body shortly after noon on April 25 at the home. The Shawnee Police Department and members of the Metro Squad, a special investigation group, immediately ruled Jennings' death a homicide.
The homicide was the first in Shawnee since November 1998, according to Sgt. Bruce Miller, of the Shawnee Police Department.

Talking points
Do you know who you’re voting for in November?
“Chuck Baldwin; he’s the Constitutional Party candidate. It’s the only conservative choice on there, as far as I can tell.”
