Multi-Service Center moves to Lenexa

September 1, 2004

The new Johnson County Multi-Service Center North-Central Branch was scheduled to open for business in Lenexa on Monday, Aug. 30.

The 22,000-square-foot facility at 12425 West 87th St. Pkwy. replaces the longtime Northeast Multi-Service Center site in the Georgetown Shopping Center, 9303 W. 74th St., Merriam. The new site is located at 87th and Long Streets, across from Lenexa City Hall.

The bulk of the moving occurred Friday.

"It's going to take some time to get settled, but the new multi-service center will be open for business on Monday without any disruption of services to the public," said Joe Waters, director of the county facilities department.

The Human Services and Aging Department offers several services at the multi-service facility, including housing and utility assistance, a food and clothing pantry and elderly programs. The county's Corrections Department also uses the site as a satellite office for client monitoring.

The new common phone number for all departments at the Johnson County Multi-Service Center North-Central Branch is 715-6650. The direct phone number to the Corrections Department is 715-6700.

Friday's move completes a $3.7 million project authorized by the Board of County Commissioners, in its role as the county's Public Building Commission, to purchase the new building, renovate it for county uses and end leasing of the Georgetown space. The county previously paid about $221,000 annually for the center's rent and utilities.
