Neighbor wins
Shawnee resident and incumbent Cindy Neighbor handily won re-election to her at-large seat on the Shawnee Mission USD 512 Board of Education.
Opponent Marc Lassalle, Lenexa, collected 10,540 votes, but there was no catching up to Neighbor, who garnered 30,660, nearly 75 percent of the vote.
Whether in a race for the school board or for her former seat in the State House of Representatives, Neighbor said she'd never won by such a large margin in a contested race and was honored that the voters supported her.
"It's just an honor to be able to serve the constituents in the Shawnee Mission School District and most especially the students, the kids," Neighbor said.
Neighbor said she looks forward to working with the board again and maintaining a standard of excellence in the school district.
Incumbents Craig Denny and Donna Bysfield also returned to the school board in Positions 2 and 4, respectively. Bysfield was unopposed, and Denny beat opponent Jennifer Morris.

Talking points
Do you think Veterans Day should be a prominent holiday?
Absolutely. We wouldn’t be able to sit here and eat lunch like this if it weren’t for the veterans. We’ve got millions of people that fought and died to save this country; it should be more than a bank holiday.
