Ron Walker, 54, Bonner Springs, died Sunday, April 3, 2005, at Providence Medical Center, Kansas City, Kan.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home in Bonner Springs with burial following in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Kansas City, Kan. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 6, at the funeral home. The family suggests memorial contributions to the children's college fund.

Mr. Walker was born March 7, 1951, in Kansas City, Mo. He was a resident of the Rosedale area of Kansas City, Kan., most of his life. For the last six years he lived in Bonner Springs. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a long-time member of Fairview Baptist Church in Kansas City, Kan., and recently had been attending Calvary Bible Church in Bonner Springs. He worked for Owens-Corning Fiberglass in Kansas City, Kan., for more than 28 years as an equipment operator and was a shop steward for the Teamsters Union.

He was preceded in death by his father, Bill Walker, in 1997; a brother, John Walker, in 2002; and a sister, Linda Lewis, in 2004. He is survived by his wife, Tammy Walker; a stepson, Matthew Caquelin; a stepdaughter, Jenna Caquelin, all of the home; his mother, Wilma Walker, Kansas City, Kan.; a brother, Bill Walker, Jr., Edgerton; as well as a host of nieces, nephews and other family and friends.

Absolutely. We wouldn’t be able to sit here and eat lunch like this if it weren’t for the veterans. We’ve got millions of people that fought and died to save this country; it should be more than a bank holiday.
