Obit: LaVonne Maxine Holmes

LaVonne "Vonnie" Maxine Holmes, 83, of Edwardsville, died Saturday, Dec. 24, 2005, at the Edwardsville Convalescent Center. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home in Bonner Springs, with burial to follow in Edwardsville Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Holmes was born Sept. 16, 1922, in Edwardsville, and lived most of her life in the Edwardsville and Kansas City, KS areas. She was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post # 199 Auxilary and the V.F.W. Post in Kansas City, Kan. She was proud to have worked at the Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant and at the bomber plant in Fairfax to support the war effort in her younger days. More recently she worked at Westfield Thriftway, retiring in the early 1980s.

Mrs. Holmes was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Joe Holmes, in 2000. She is survived by three sons, Robert Fitch of Kansas City, Mo.; Brian Price of Kansas City, Kan.; and James Price of Independence, Mo.; two daughters, Linda Clark of Rockhill, S.C.; and Diana Keller of Gardner; a sister, Freida Howerton of Bonner Springs, and one brother, Raymond Lowe of Oskaloosa, Kan.; 16 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
