Herbert M. Hollis, 77, Olathe, died Wednesday, June 8, 2005 at the Royal Terrace Nursing Center, Olathe. Memorial services were Saturday at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee. Memorial contributions may be made to the Nall Avenue Baptist Church, 5401 W. 67th St., Prairie Village, 66208.

Mr. Hollis was born July 22, 1927, in Kansas City, Kan., to Earl M. and Mary Jane (Eakens) Hollis. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II. He was employed with Delco Battery, retiring in 1982. Following retirement he worked part-time at Johnson County Community College. He was a member of Nall Avenue Baptist Church, a 52-year member of Masonic Lodge No. 54, Shawnee, and the Woodcarvers Assn.

He was preceded in death by his two brothers, Bill Hollis and Harold Brown; and two sisters, Betty Whisler and Thelma Longfellow. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Pauline (Gover) Hollis, Olathe; a son, Herbert M. Hollis Jr., Shawnee; two daughters, Cheri Hollis, Blue Springs, Mo., and Glenda Stachowiak, Scottsdale, Ariz.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
