Obit: Floyd B. Jacobs

Floyd B. Jacobs, 77, Edwardsville, died Sunday, March 27, 2004. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Bethel Free Will Baptist Church, 2719 N. 67th St., Kansas City, Kan. Visitation will precede the service.

Mr. Jacobs was born July 21, 1927, in Elmwood. He was a World War II U.S. Navy Seabees veteran and a heavy equipment operator with Local Union 101. He married Tressa Goodell on Oct. 20, 1949 and together they had nine children.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Fern Jacobs; a brother, Lloyd Jacobs; a sister, Clara McFarland; and a son, Jimmy Jacobs. Survivors include the wife, Tressa; and children, Gary Jacobs, Odessa, Mo.; Sheryl Hollbrook, Independence, Mo.; Marsha Biondo, Blue Springs, Mo.; and Bill and Kathy DeBoer, Wahoo, Neb. There are 18 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the church or to the Alzheimer's Association.

Absolutely. We wouldn’t be able to sit here and eat lunch like this if it weren’t for the veterans. We’ve got millions of people that fought and died to save this country; it should be more than a bank holiday.
