Spanish teacher steps up to North No. 2

March 30, 2005

Eric Rembold is next up in the administrative shuffle at Shawnee Mission North High School.

Rembold, a Spanish teacher at North since 1999, will become the school's newest associate principal.

Rembold will complete a chain of reassignments that will go into effect at the school this fall: Rembold will fill a spot left by associate principal Tony Lake, who will take the place of principal Chuck McLean, who will take the place of Shawnee Mission West High School principal Karl Krawitz after his retirement.

After the Shawnee Mission USD 512 Board of Education approved his appointment Monday night, Rembold said he was a little nervous but really excited about his new job.

"It's definitely going to be a transition," he said. "I'm just thrilled to get a chance to stay at North."

Rembold said he liked working one-on-one with students in his classes. He would miss doing that in the classroom, he said, but hopefully would be able to apply the same effort to students as an administrator

"It's just a good opportunity to impact the school as a whole rather than just those kids you see every other day," he said.

Rembold received a bachelor's degree in Spanish education from the University of Northern Iowa and a master's degree in school leadership from Baker University's School of Professional and Graduate Studies.

Before he began teaching at North, Rembold taught Spanish at McHenry High School-West Campus in McHenry, Ill., from 1995 to 1999.

He completed his district administrative internship and directed field experience through North and Baker.

Talking points

Do you think Veterans Day should be a prominent holiday?

Absolutely. We wouldn’t be able to sit here and eat lunch like this if it weren’t for the veterans. We’ve got millions of people that fought and died to save this country; it should be more than a bank holiday.
