Tidy Town planned April 29 and May 6

April 19, 2006

It's time to tidy up the town in Shawnee and get rid of large, unusable items.

Deffenbaugh will pick up large items Shawnee residents place curbside on two days, one for residents east of Pflumm and one for residents west of Pflumm. By special appointment, Deffenbaugh also will pick up refrigerators, freezers, air-conditioners and other items containing refrigerants at no charge.

Residents living east of Pflumm should place unwanted items at the curb by 7 a.m. April 29, for pick up. Those living west of Pflumm should do the same on May 6.

Items containing refrigerants will be accepted if residents call Deffenbaugh at 631-3300 before April 28 to schedule the pick up. Residents also should reduce bundled or loosely packaged items to weigh less than 65 lbs., remove rims on tires and cut branches and limbs to four feet or less and bundle them. Carpet also should be cut to four foot lengths, rolled and tied.

Deffenbaugh will not collect the following items: car batteries, car parts or more than four tires; large volumes of remodel, construction or concrete debris; fireplace ashes; or liquid waste, paint, solvents or hazardous materials (call 492-0402 to arrange disposal of these materials).

For more information, call the Public Works Department at 631-2500, extension 230.
