Conservative wins GOP 39th District primary
Conservative Owen Donohoe will face Democrat Corey Mohn in November for the 39th Kansas House District seat.
With complete but unofficial vote totals reported from Johnson, Wyandotte and Leavenworth counties, Donohoe racked up 862 votes against 754 for Quentin Brewer, the moderate promoted by Ray Cox, whose seat the winner would be taking in the Kansas House of Representatives.
Reached at his home Wednesday night while awaiting the results of the last two Wyandotte County precincts, Brewer was palpably disappointed.
"I was wanting to get in there to do things for the people," he said.
Brewer said the problem might have been a low voter turnout, at least for the voters he needed to win.
"I guess my voters weren't that interested in getting out," he mused.
Brewer said he was "a little tired after working so hard" for the campaign, and dispirited that hard work was not apparently enough.
Donohoe had admitted in interviews that he hadn't campaigned very hard or met with many groups. He couldn't be reached Tuesday night.

Talking points
Do you think Veterans Day should be a prominent holiday?
Absolutely. We wouldn’t be able to sit here and eat lunch like this if it weren’t for the veterans. We’ve got millions of people that fought and died to save this country; it should be more than a bank holiday.
