Obituary: Alice “Bernice” McMillian
Kansas City, Kan.
Alice "Bernice" McMillian 80, of Kansas City, Kan., died Jan. 31, 2006, at Parkway Care Center. Known as "Bernice" to her friends and Grandma Mac to her eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, she will be greatly missed by all, including her dog, Gus.
She was born May 11, 1925, in Torrance, Calif. She and her family drove from California to Burlingame, Kan., in 1932. During World War II she worked for the Union Pacific Railroad. It was during this time she met her future husband and came to Kansas City to raise her family. She eventually retired from the Swingster Manufacturing Co.
Mrs. McMillian was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Homer F. "Mac" McMillian, and is survived by four children and their spouses: daughters Connie (Jim) Matlock of Kansas City, Kan.; and Susie (Jim) Anderson of Pinetop, Ariz.; and sons Ronald (Lynn) McMillian of Basehor; and Jay (Lainey) McMillian of Overland Park.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home in Bonner Springs. All who attend are invited to fellowship and food afterwards at Stony Point Christian Church, Kansas City, Kan.
