Youth earns Eagle award

Anton Thomas of Shawnee celebrated his Eagle Court of Honor last summer at Camp Naish in Bonner Springs.

Anton earned his Eagle Scout honor at Shawnee Presbyterian Church. He directed the remodeling of the church kiosk sign and landscaping. He collected donations and met with church and troop committee members to develop his project. He supervised 13 workers and spent a total of 86 hours on the project.

Anton, son of Tim and Mary Pat Thomas, is a sophomore at Shawnee Mission Northwest High School. He began Scouting in 1997 as a Tiger Cub at St. Joseph Catholic School, Pack 3284.

In March 2002, Anton became a part of Boy Scout Troop 185. He earned 29 merit badges and served Troop 185 in leadership roles of scribe, patrol leader, senior patrol leader and Order of the Arrow troop representative.

His Scout honors include junior maintenance commissioner, Order of the Arrow Ordeal and Brotherhood and Coup of the Far Traveler.

Anton is a member of the Northwest wrestling team.He hopes to attend Pittsburg State University after graduation in 2009.

Absolutely. We wouldn’t be able to sit here and eat lunch like this if it weren’t for the veterans. We’ve got millions of people that fought and died to save this country; it should be more than a bank holiday.
