- Spanish Chat, noon May 5. ¿Quiere Ud. practicar el español? Would you like to practice speaking Spanish? Join us the first Saturday of each month beginning for an informal chat. Bring your lunch and come ready to talk. No registration required.
- Tea and Health, 1:30 p.m. May 10, at Shawnee Heartland Assisted Living, 26107 Midland Dr. Laurie Black, tea educator dubbed "The Tea Queen," will give an enlightening history and definition of what tea is, describe four types of tea and explain health benefits of tea. Tea samples provided.
- Read to a Dog, 1 p.m. May 12. Children can practice reading to enhance skills or just for fun with these specially-trained dogs. Recommended for ages 5-12; registration requested.

- Yoga For Kids, 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. Wednesdays in April. Enroll for four-week sessions of yoga, art and fun for children 4- to 9-years-old. A new session begins each month and costs $28 per child.
- KABOOM! Hands on Science Workshops, Thursdays. These workshops provide guided experiences and observations in a fun, informal learning environment designed to spark children's interest in science.
- Gymboree at Wonderscope, 9:30 -- 10:15 a.m. Friday and May 4 and 18. Bubbles, parachute play and songs for young children with an adult. Cost $2 per child.
- KerSPLAT! Integrated Arts Workshops, Mondays. Enroll 3-6 year olds for fun, creative experiences that will help them develop their inherent creativity and love of learning.

- Priscilla Howe, Storyteller Extraordinaire, 9:30 a.m. Tuesday and May 8 and 22. Priscilla joins the museum the second and fourth Tuesday of each month to tell her favorite stories with the help of her hand puppets. Cost $1 per child.
- The Music in You, 9:30 -- 10:15 a.m. April 27 and May 11 and 25. Sandy Jackson, music therapist, shares music for the kid in all of us. Coast $2 per child.
- Mommies, Moms, Mothers -- and Grandmas, Too! All day May 7-12. The museum will celebrate Mothers' Day all week with special events and drawings for special prizes each day. The museum will be closed for Mothers' Day May 13.
- Jim Cosgrove Live! 10-11 a.m. May 25. School is almost out for the big kids, so this is the annual Cosgrove-for-the-little-kids concert. Tickets are $3 per child ages 2 and up and go on sale May 1.
- Wonderscope will be closed for Memorial Day, May 27 and 28.

- The Shawnee Town Museum tours are open to the public 10 a.m. -- 4:30 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday through the end of October.
- Speaker Series: Singing Our Way Through History, 7-8:30 p.m. May 8 at Town Hall, 11600 Johnson Dr. The "On Q!" quartet will sing several old songs and share the history behind each song. Free.

- The 1950s All-Electric House, open 1-4 p.m. Tuesday-Sunday. Step inside this 1954 "house of the future," a completely restored KCP&L show home. Cost is $2 for adults and $1 for children ages 12 and younger. Guided tours only.
- Made in Johnson County, 10-4:30 p.m. Tuesdays-Saturdays and 1-4:30 p.m. Sundays through Aug. 12. This exhibit highlights Johnson County's entrepreneurial spirit, present products made in the county and highlighting the inventors who created them.
- Harriet Hopperdoodle's Hair-Brained History Test, 11 a.m. May 12. Take a trip through invention history in the Martin City Jr. Players production. Harriet's adventures lead her to Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Edison and others. Free.
Lanesfield School Historic Site
187th and Dillie Rd., Edgerton (913) 893-6645.
- School open 1-5 p.m. Tuesday-Sunday. Practice penmanship, cipher math problems on a slate or participate in an old-fashioned spelling bee with a costumed school teacher at Lanesfield School. Built in 1869, the school is the only building remaining from the town of Lanesfield, a former Santa Fe Trail mail stop. Free admission.
- May Day at Lanesfield, 1-4 p.m. April 29. Watch a traditional Maypole dance and learn how to do it. There will also be live music, refreshments and May basket crafts for all ages.
