De Soto bond meeting tonight, ballots mailed today
De Soto School District officials will have an informational meeting on the bond at 7 p.m. Wednesday at De Soto High School. A second meeting will be at 7 p.m. Sept. 5 at Mill Valley High School.
Mail-in ballots for the De Soto School District 232 bond referendums will be distributed Wednesday. All registered voters should receive the ballots in their mail boxes by Sept. 8.
Voters will be asked to decide two questions on the ballot. The first question would give the district authority to issue $51 million in bonds for special programs, building additions, land acquisition and technology needs. The second question would provide bonding to construct two performing arts centers and install artificial turf at both high schools for $19.5 million. The first question must pass for the second question to pass.
Ballots must be received by noon Sept. 18 at the Johnson County Election Office, 2101 E. Kansas City Road, Olathe.
Residents who are not registered have until Sept. 4 to do so and be eligible for the election. Voter registration is available at any of the Johnson County libraries or at the election office.
Preliminary election results will be available Sept. 18. Official results, including provisional ballots, will be reported Sept. 24.
