Obituary: Margie Ella Hatton

Shawnee

Margie Ella Hatton, 85, Shawnee, died Monday, July 2, 2007, at the Shawnee Mission Medical Center. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 5, 2007, at the Pleasant View Cemetery.

Mrs. Hatton was born Aug. 27, 1921, in Kansas City, Mo., to Harry E. and Alta (Earnshaw) Mellon. On Sept. 7, 1968, she married James W. Hatton. She was a member of the Shawnee United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by a son, Robert H. Jones; two sisters, Alice Blanton and Josephine Benlon and a step-daughter, Sandra Murray. Survivors include her husband, James W. Hatton, of the home; a son, Michael Jones, Paola; step-children, Brenda Stroth, Kansas City, Kan.; James Hatton Jr., Columbia, Mo.; Lola Kay Hovius, Atlanta, Ga.; Thomas Hatton, Houston, Texas; and Rebecca Hatton, Columbia, Mo.; and four grandchildren, Ronald Jones and Alica Jones, both of Paola, and Jessica and Josh Jones, both of Shawnee.

Absolutely. We wouldn’t be able to sit here and eat lunch like this if it weren’t for the veterans. We’ve got millions of people that fought and died to save this country; it should be more than a bank holiday.
