Obituary: Martha (Marty) Clayton

1917-2007

Shawnee

Martha Clayton, 89, died June 20, 2007. She was born July 25, 1917, in Fonda, Iowa, spent many years in Santa Fe, N.M, and most recently was a 12-year resident of Shawnee.

Mrs. Clayton was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. R.D. Clayton; a daughter, Donna K. Adkins; a grandson, Dwight Coons; and granddaughter, Marilyn Coons. She is survived by two sons, Dallas Clayton, of New Mexico; and Donald R. Adkins, of Shawnee; a granddaughter, Pamela Maestas; a great-granddaughter, Grace Hollingsworth; and a great-grandson, Justin Maestas, of New Mexico; a grandson, Alex Clayton; and great-granddaughters, Jaime and Ashley, of Texas; granddaughter, Kimberly Adkins-Everhart; a grandson, Kevin R. Adkins; and great-grandsons, Triston and Aidan, of Kansas City, Kan.; granddaughter, Kori Holloway, of Kansas City, Kan.

Her family wishes to extend their gratitude for the wonderful care given to her by the Garden Terrace of Overland Park family, and especially Debbie Beihl.

A visitation was held June 30, followed by funeral services at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee. Burial was in Resurrection Cemetery.

Absolutely. We wouldn’t be able to sit here and eat lunch like this if it weren’t for the veterans. We’ve got millions of people that fought and died to save this country; it should be more than a bank holiday.
