Obituary: Albert Bohnert Jr.

Albert Bohnert Jr., 67, of Shawnee, died of cancer, Wednesday, June 20, 2007, at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. The Mass of Christian Burial was Monday at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, with burial in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation and rosary were Sunday at the church. The family suggests contributions to the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, PO Box 4486 Houston, TX 77210-4486 or the Capuchin Province of Mid-America, PO Box 40575, Denver CO 80204-0575.

Mr. Bohnert was born Jan. 9, 1940, in Kansas City, Kan., to Albert and Katherine Bohnert. He founded Bohnert Construction Co. in 1979 and remained a commercial construction consultant after its sale until his death. He was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church and was an award-winning barbecue chef under the name of Jacques Strappe. In the past he served in the Naval Reserves, the Shawnee City Council and the Board of Zoning Appeals and had been a member of the Kansas City, Kansas Chamber of Commerce and was involved in the Special Olympics.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Marilyn Bohnert; three daughters, Julie Kinderknecht, D.V.M., Buena Vista, Colo.; Donna Bohnert, Holden, Mo.; and Sandra John, Kansas City, Mo.; his grandchildren, Jordan Lavy, Devin John and Connor John, and a sister, Virginia Bohnert, S.C, Denver, Colo.

Absolutely. We wouldn’t be able to sit here and eat lunch like this if it weren’t for the veterans. We’ve got millions of people that fought and died to save this country; it should be more than a bank holiday.
