Letter: This is ‘better’?
To the Editor:
As I am sure you are aware of, and no doubt received many other e-mails on, there are tentative plans to build a Wal-Mart in the commercial lot at the southeast corner of Johnson drive and K-7.
As a resident in the neighboring community, Grey Oaks, I am firmly against this plan. I don't even know why Wal-Mart would want to build a store there when it has two other stores within five miles? This fact alone alludes to the cannibalistic and destructive nature of the Wal-Mart monster. The developer continues to claim that it will be a "nice looking" Wal-Mart with an attractive elevation.
My question is, does Shawnee really want to be known for having the "nicest" Wal-Mart around so that all of the regional Wal-Mart shoppers drive from miles around to come see it? By the way, Wal-Mart shoppers as a whole contribute to the statistical fact that the crime rates at Wal-Marts are higher than most other stores in comparable areas, including Target (source: http://www.walmartcrimereport.com/report.pdf)
Great, that is exactly what I am looking for in my backyard.
I support a Shawnee that is better than this.
