Scarecrow festival
September 25, 2007
Shawnee Scarecrows, pies, dirty jeans and pumpkins - all these will come together at the third annual Scarecrow Festival Oct. 6.
The festival organized by the Shawnee Downtown Partnership will take place from 9 a.m. to noon in the City Hall parking lot. Several contests and activities will be available in addition to the usual Saturday morning Farmer's Market, and downtown will be covered in scarecrows, displayed beginning this week through mid-October, for the scarecrow contest. A photographer will take photos at the festival that will be available for later purchase.
The scarecrows are created by downtown businesses and residents, though anyone may create a scarecrow and have it displayed in front of City Hall. Scarecrows will be judged Friday.
Events include free pumpkin painting for children, a chance to make your own scarecrow, a pumpkin carving contest, a "World's Worst Jeans" contest and several baking contests.
Winners of each contest receive a $50 prize, and after the baking contests, pie slices will be available for $1 each. Cat's Corner Cafe will have hot drinks available.
Entry forms for any of the contests must be turned in by Oct. 3 and can be obtained at City Hall or by calling 631-2500 ext. 226.

Talking points
Do you know who you’re voting for in November?
“Chuck Baldwin; he’s the Constitutional Party candidate. It’s the only conservative choice on there, as far as I can tell.”
