Incumbent Jeff Meyers was elected to a second four-year term in Tuesday's city elections.
Meyers received 3,585 votes to challenger Dan Pflumm's 2,158 votes in balloting, the Johnson County Election Office reported about 8:45 p.m. Tuesday. The totals translate into 62.4 percent of the vote for Meyers, who teaches and coaches in the Olathe school district. The results remain unofficial until certified at 9 a.m. Monday by the Board of Canvassers.
Meyers' victory led a sweep by incumbents in Tuesday's City Council races. In Ward I, Cheryl Scott outpolled her opponent, Kathleen Chipman Shamet, 1,342-345. Shamet had announced last month she was abandoning her run. In Ward II, Neal Sawyer defeated Ron Weigel, 794-541. In Ward III, Dawn Kuhn defeated challenger Bob Dyche 671-564. Ward IV voters returned Mickey Sandifer to office over challenter Frank Imgrund, 935-418.

Talking points
Do you think Veterans Day should be a prominent holiday?
Absolutely. We wouldn’t be able to sit here and eat lunch like this if it weren’t for the veterans. We’ve got millions of people that fought and died to save this country; it should be more than a bank holiday.
