Tidy Town pickups scheduled in city
Annual large-item refuse collections
April 8, 2008
Shawnee's annual Tidy Town event, picking up large items for disposal, will be April 26 and May 3 this year.
The free curbside, large-item pick up is for those items not collected by routine trash services. The service is provided by Deffenbaugh Industries. Shawnee residents east of Pflumm Road may put their large items out for pick up April 26; residents west of Pflumm should put their items out May 3.
With an appointment, Deffenbaugh will pick up refrigerators, freezers, air-conditioners and other items containing CFCs or refrigerants at no charge on the same Saturday as the scheduled Tidy Town pick up. To schedule an appointment, call 631-3300. Residents east of Pflumm should call before April 25, and residents west of Pflumm should call before May 2.
Items must be at the curb by 7 a.m.
Residents should not place trash cans or containers they want to keep by the curb, because the containers will be picked up.
Residents should reduce bundled or loosely packaged items to weigh less than 65 pounds.
Carpet should be cut into four-foot lengths, rolled and tied, and branches should be cut to four feet and securely bundled.
Items not eligible for collection include: car batteries, car parts or more than four tires (rims must be removed); and large volumes of remodel, construction or concrete debris. Liquid waste, paint, solvents or hazardous materials also will not be collected; call 715-6900 to arrange disposal of these materials.
For more information, contact City Hall at 631-2500 ext. 230.

Talking points
Do you think Veterans Day should be a prominent holiday?
Absolutely. We wouldn’t be able to sit here and eat lunch like this if it weren’t for the veterans. We’ve got millions of people that fought and died to save this country; it should be more than a bank holiday.
