Shawnee liquor store robbed
August 4, 2008
Shawnee police are searching for two men who reportedly robbed a Shawnee liquor store Sunday.
Police officers responded to a report of robbery at 2:37 p.m. Sunday at Mr. G's Liquor Store, just south of 75th Street and Quivira Road on the city's border with Lenexa. The store clerk reported that two armed, Hispanic suspects had entered the store and took an undisclosed amount of cash from the cash register.
The suspects knocked the clerk to the ground by hitting him in the head with a gun and ran from the store. Though he was bleeding, the clerk declined a trip to the hospital, and police continue to investigate the crime.
Two other liquor stores in Shawnee were broken into over the weekend, though in those cases, the burglers took liquor rather than cash.
The JBC Liquor Store, 12303 Johnson Drive, was broken into about 11:35 p.m. Friday. Capt. Ron Copeland said the thieves broke the window in the door of the business and took several bottles of rum and some beer. Copeland said witnesses reported seeing two men leaving the scene carrying items.
Jack's Discount Liquor, 13300 W. 62nd Terr., was broken into in the early hours of Sunday. The thieves broke a window to gain access to the store but only stole a few bottles of liquor in this case, as well.

Talking points
Do you think Veterans Day should be a prominent holiday?
Absolutely. We wouldn’t be able to sit here and eat lunch like this if it weren’t for the veterans. We’ve got millions of people that fought and died to save this country; it should be more than a bank holiday.
