Police find drugs at same home where officer was shot
August 21, 2008
Shawnee police Tuesday evening attracted some attention when they served a search warrant to a familiar address.
Police arrived to serve a search warrant at the home in the 6600 block of Park Street, the same house where in February, Alexander Ayers is charged with shooting a police officer in his bullet-proof vest. At the house, Capt. Ron Copeland said police found and charged suspects for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia and with the sale of marijuana. One suspect was found to have an active felony warrant and was arrested; charges are pending against the others.
The police brought their Special Tactics And Response Entry Team, similar to a SWAT team, to serve the warrant. Copeland said bringing the team along is standard operating procedure in cases where police know they are confronting people with a record of violent acts.
Ayers' trial begins on Monday. He is charged with attempted first-degree murder and felony possession of a handgun.

Talking points
Do you think Veterans Day should be a prominent holiday?
Absolutely. We wouldn’t be able to sit here and eat lunch like this if it weren’t for the veterans. We’ve got millions of people that fought and died to save this country; it should be more than a bank holiday.
