SEDC to award Shawnee businesses

Shawnee Mayor Jeff Meyers will present the 2008 Business Development Awards from the Shawnee Economic Development Council at a July 10 luncheon.
The criteria for being selected for the honor includes having projects that were completed or nearly completed in the last 12 months, projects that involved a capital investment of at least $1 million, and/or projects that created a significant amount of jobs in the community.
The companies that will be honored at the event, to be held at Shawnee Town Hall, include: Bank of America, Bushnell Outdoor Products, Crown 2 Building, CVS Pharmacy (Grey Oaks), DigiTron Technologies Inc., Hans Rudolph, Inc., Harold Payne Plastics LC Expansion, Hereford House, Heart of America Research Institute, J.A.S Shops/Starbucks, KC BioMediX, SKC Communication Products Inc. and Stag’s Run.
Other awards will include the recognition of Aunt Jean’s Ice Cream with the Downtown Impact Award, honoring it as the business development that had the greatest positive impact on Shawnee’s downtown area. The Downtown Revitalization Award will go to Back in Motion, to honor their business for the most significant improvement to an outside appearance of a downtown commercial building during the previous 12 months.
The SEDC Distinguished Corporate Citizen Award will be presented to Zarda/Rieke Development for demonstrating the ability for consistent growth; having chosen to focus on education, leadership and economic development; and providing a positive influence on the future development of the community and state.
The Shawnee Chamber of Commerce Hall of Fame Award also will be presented to Shawnee Mission Ford. The award is a special recognition of a business that has played a major role in shaping the face of the community and making a tremendous contribution to the city over a long period of time.
