U.S. Rep. Dennis Moore, D-Lenexa, has announced his endorsement of U.S. Sen. Barack Obama, the Democratic Party's presumptive presidential nominee.
"Senator Barack Obama has proven that he has the ability to bring people together, inspire hope for the future and provide the kind of leadership we expect from our President," said Moore, whose 3rd congressional district includes east Lawrence.
Meanwhile, U.S. Rep. Nancy Boyda, D-Topeka, has declined to make an official endorsement.
Her office said she will support the Democratic nominee but wants to focus on her job in Washington and not get involved in the presidential race.
Boyda's 2nd congressional district includes west Lawrence.
The Kansas Republican Party issued a news release slamming Obama.
"Now that Barack Obama has secured the Democrat Party's presidential nomination, it has become clear that many Democrats are suffering buyer's remorse," said state GOP Chairman Kris Kobach.
"The concerns by these Democrats regarding Obama's naÃivete, fundamental lack of judgment, and failure to lead on issues that matter most to Americans will not fade," he said.
But Moore said Obama "represents the common-sense values of the midwest."

Talking points
Do you think Veterans Day should be a prominent holiday?
Absolutely. We wouldn’t be able to sit here and eat lunch like this if it weren’t for the veterans. We’ve got millions of people that fought and died to save this country; it should be more than a bank holiday.
