Heat lamp leads to fire
March 4, 2008
A Shawnee house fire Saturday started by a heat lamp in the garage led to thousands of dollars in damage.
The Shawnee Fire Department responded to a house fire at 8:05 a.m. at 4706 Roundtree Court.
All occupants were out of the house at the time the fire department arrived, but one resident was treated at the scene for minor burns. A dog also died in the fire.
Crews were met with heavy smoke but were able to get the fire under control quickly.
An investigation revealed the fire was caused by a heat lamp left on in the garage to keep the dog warm. The lamp was left too close to a trash can, which caught on fire.
The fire marshal estimated the damage to the house's structure and contents at $150,000.
