Retreat to focus on journaling as a self-discovery tool
May 2, 2008
Faye Schwelitz will conduct the "Journey to Inner Freedom Retreat: Writing from the Quiet Center," July 27-Aug. 1 at Marillac Center, Leavenworth.
Schwelitz has been a leader in encouraging journaling as a powerful self-discovery tool and a means of mind-body-spirit connection and integration. She developed the "Journey to Inner Freedom" writing workbook and facilitation method, which she will use during the Marillac Center retreat.
The retreat will be divided into two parts: "Entering the Quiet," July 27-29; and "Deepening in the Quiet," July 30-Aug. 1. Participants can choose to attend only Part 1, but they must take Part 1 as a requisite to attending Part 2. Optional evening sessions, Monday through Thursday, will focus on mandalas, geometric designs symbolic of the universe.
Schwelitz has doctorates in both biology and psychology and training in spiritual direction. She became a journal leader in 1978 and until 2006 gave Intensive Journal workshops across the country. For the past five years, she has offered journaling workshops to inmates at the Federal Prison in Leavenworth.
Pre-registration with a $150 deposit is required by July 1for the upcoming retreat. Registration fee is $600 for the entire retreat with overnight accommodations ($550 if sharing a room); $300 for Part 1 only with overnight accommodations ($280 if sharing a room); $400 for commuters for the entire retreat; and $210 for commuters for Part 1 only.

Talking points
Do you think Veterans Day should be a prominent holiday?
Absolutely. We wouldn’t be able to sit here and eat lunch like this if it weren’t for the veterans. We’ve got millions of people that fought and died to save this country; it should be more than a bank holiday.
