May 6, 2008
On May 10, 20 Kansas City area Hy-Vee stores, including the Shawnee location, will join with 18 area Kiwanis Clubs, including Shawnee's club, for the ninth annual Mom's Day Baby Shower Drive for agencies helping babies in need.
Kiwanians will collect baby care items such as diapers and formula from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the stores to distribute to 19 local service agencies. Agencies benefiting include Safehome, a domestic violence shelter in Johnson County, and Olathe-based Temporary Lodging for Children Inc., an emergency shelter for abused and neglected children.

Talking points
Do you think Veterans Day should be a prominent holiday?
Absolutely. We wouldn’t be able to sit here and eat lunch like this if it weren’t for the veterans. We’ve got millions of people that fought and died to save this country; it should be more than a bank holiday.
