May 6, 2008

Dr. Jeffry D. Gerson of Shawnee recently was named the 2008 Outstanding Young Optometrist of the Year.

Gerson received the award at the 2008 Kansas Optometric Association Convention, which took place April 24-26 in Topeka. He practices at the WestGlen Eyecare & Omni Eye Center of Kansas City.

To receive the award, optometrists must have been in practice for 10 years or less. Gerson received the award based on his professional and volunteer activities, including publishing more than a dozen articles and giving more than 100 lectures.

Those at the association’s convention were able to attend 14 hours of continuing education on developments in eye care for re-licensure. Dr. Roger Wineinger, whose practice is in Shawnee, also attended.
