Two Jaguars medal at KVL golf tournament

The Mill Valley boys golf team landed two players in the top seven at the Kaw Valley League championships on Monday at Eagle Bend Golf Course, but it wasn't enough for the Jaguars to win a league title.

The Jaguars finished fourth in the team standings with a four-player score of 343. Lansing won the championship with 321. Basehor-Linwood the 2007 champion was second with 333, and Tonganoxie shot 336.

Lansing senior Maria Jackson was the league champion with a score of 75. Bonner Springs senior Cody Wallace was the runner-up for the second straight year with a 78. Lansing junior Josh Greene was the only other player to shoot in the 70s. He had a 79.

James Mullin was Mill Valley's top individual performer. He finished fourth overall with an 80 and earned medalist honors. Cale Armstrong also medaled with an 82, good for seventh place.

Also for Mill Valley, Brett Murray shot 87, Marcus Grimes had a 94, Michael Fleenor had a 95 and Max Merriman had a 101.

The Jaguars next compete at 9 a.m. Monday at the Class 5A regional tournament at Emporia Municipal Golf Course.
