Northwest boys, girls fourth at Sunflower League track meet

Olathe The Shawnee Mission Northwest boys and girls track teams finished fourth at the Sunflower League track championships on Friday at the Olathe District Activity Center.
The Shawnee Mission North girls placed seventh as a team, and the North boys were ninth.
Kyle Schlicht highlighted the day for Northwest by winning a hotly contested 3,200-meter run in 9:43.16. Teammate Jared Ellsworth added a second-place finish in the 1,600 in 4:27.28 and was third in the 800 in 1:59.25.
Evan Mesh was second in the 300 hurdles in 38.73 and fourth in the 110 hurdles in 14.77.
Northwest had runner-up finishes in the 800 relay in 1:30.02 and in the 1,600 relay in 3:24.8.
North had two champions on the boys’ side. Aaron Sawyer won the 110 hurdles in 14.11, and Nico Yoch won the pole vault with a clearance of 14-0. The 400 relay team placed third in 43.55.
On the girls’ side, Christen Botteron was Northwest’s lone individual champion. She won the pole vault with a clearance of 11-6. The medley relay team also won gold, finishing in 4:24.42.
Lisa Imgrund finished second in the 1,600 in 5:14.10 and third in the 3,200 in 11:36.93. Erica Brand was second in the discus with a mark of 124-2 and fourth in the shot put with a heave of 36-9 1/2.
Storm Simons was the standout for Shawnee Mission North. She scorched her way to a first-place finish in the 300 hurdles in 46.46. Chelsea Kieffer was second in 47.83. In addition, the North 800 relay team was second in 1:47.96 and the 400 relay team was third in 50.65.
