Northwest, Mill Valley send golfers to state

Two Shawnee Mission Northwest golfers qualified for the Class 6A state tournament.
Sophomore Brett Dowell shot an 82 to finish seventh at the regional tournament Monday at Eagle Bend Golf Course in Lawrence.
Senior Scott Fruehling continued his improved play for the Cougars. His 85 - only his third score under 90 of the season - earned him one of the final qualifying spots for state.
State will take place at 8 a.m. Monday, May 19, at Shadow Glen Golf Club in Olathe.
Meanwhile, Mill Valley also had two players qualify for state. Both Cale Armstrong and Marcus Grimes shot 90s at the regional tournament Monday at Emporia Municipal Golf Course.
The 5A state tournament will take place at 8 a.m. Monday at Turkey Creek Golf Course in McPherson.

Absolutely. We wouldn’t be able to sit here and eat lunch like this if it weren’t for the veterans. We’ve got millions of people that fought and died to save this country; it should be more than a bank holiday.
