Arrests made in Shawnee holdup
May 16, 2008
Three men from Shawnee, including a juvenile, and a Kansas City, Kan., man were arrested Wednesday night and charged with robbing a Shawnee gasoline station earlier in the evening.
Capt. Ron Copeland said three of the suspects entered the Valero station near Shawnee Mission Parkway and Nieman Road about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, while one stayed in the car, a green Pontiac. Two of the suspects were armed with handguns, and the suspects demanded money and cigarettes from the clerk before fleeing. The clerk was the only employee in the store and there were no customers.
About an hour later, a Merriam police officer noticed a suspicious vehicle at a gasoline station at 47th Street and Switzer Road that matched the description of the vehicle used in the Shawnee robbery. The officer pulled the car over and found evidence to indicate the occupants had been involved in the Shawnee incident, including a Glock 9 mm handgun.
The older men, two age 19 and one age 20, as well as a 16-year-old were arrested on armed robbery charges and await arraignment.

Talking points
Do you think Veterans Day should be a prominent holiday?
Absolutely. We wouldn’t be able to sit here and eat lunch like this if it weren’t for the veterans. We’ve got millions of people that fought and died to save this country; it should be more than a bank holiday.
