Kansas University senior linebacker Mike Rivera was named as one of 57 Football Bowl Subdivision semifinalists for the 2008 Draddy Trophy, as announced Wednesday, Oct. 1, by the by the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame.

The trophy is awarded based on academic success, football performance and exemplary community leadership. Finalists for the award, which began in 1990, will be announced Oct. 29.

Rivera, a KU senior and a 2004 graduate of Shawnee Mission Northwest, was an Academic All-Big 12 First Team selection in 2007 and a second-team choice in 2006. A team captain for 2008, Rivera is also a leader among the team in community service projects. He has been awarded the team’s Community Service Award in each of the honor’s first two years of existence.
