Maranatha Academy closed out its girls tennis season on Thursday the Class 2-1A regional tournament at Indian Creek Recreation Center.
None of the Eagles advanced to play in Saturday's substate tournament.
Felicia Goodwin earned the No. 4 seed in the singles bracket and received a first-round bye. She ran into No. 5 seed Maddi Mitchell of KC Christian in the second round and was eliminated in a hard-fought match, 6-0, 6-7, 6-4.
Also in singles, Maranatha's Kellie Mowrer earned the No. 6 seed and disposed of No. 11 seed Jessica Budke of Immaculata in the first round, 7-5, 6-7, 6-4. In the second round Mowrer was eliminated by Marysville's Kiley Schwartz, 6-1, 6-3.
Both of Maranatha's doubles teams also failed to advance to the substate tournament. Bekah Westerfeld and Amber Wallace earned the No. 8 seed. They defeated Maur Hill in the first round, 6-1, 6-0, but lost in straight sets to the No. 1 seed from Marysville in the second round. Talking points
Do you think Veterans Day should be a prominent holiday?
Absolutely. We wouldn’t be able to sit here and eat lunch like this if it weren’t for the veterans. We’ve got millions of people that fought and died to save this country; it should be more than a bank holiday.
