Reminder: city departments move this week
September 2, 2008
Shawnee residents near Shawnee Mission Parkway and Barker Road won't be seeing fire trucks as often anymore.
That's because today, firefighters are moving from the old Shawnee Fire Station No. 72 on Midland Drive to their new digs at the Justice Center. And Friday, the Shawnee Police Department will begin its move to the new building from current headquarters at 6535 Quivira Road.
The police department will move slowly, division by division, beginning with the administration, investigative and professional standards divisions on Friday. The public should continue to go to the Quivira Road police station for any of its needs until Sept. 12, the day the records unit will move out to the new station, along with the patrol division. The public won't be able to obtain records on that day due to the move, but the records division will reopen Monday, Sept. 15, at the Justice Center.

Talking points
Do you think Veterans Day should be a prominent holiday?
Absolutely. We wouldn’t be able to sit here and eat lunch like this if it weren’t for the veterans. We’ve got millions of people that fought and died to save this country; it should be more than a bank holiday.
