September 5, 2008
The Shawnee Mission North volleyball team opened its season Thursday by posting a 2-1 record at the Topeka High Quadrangular.
The Indians defeated Topeka High and Shawnee Mission South and dropped a match to traditional Class 5A powerhouse Shawnee Heights.
Senior Jazmin Richmond led the team with a .357 hitting percentage. Junior setter Kara Cornwell fired 11 service aces and senior Libero Chelsea Kiefer had a team-high 23 digs.
North next plays on Thursday, Sept. 11, against Lawrence High, Lawrence Free State and Olathe North at ONHS before heading to the always-tough Lansing Invitational on Sept. 13.
