Chamber offers candidate forums

September 23, 2008

The Shawnee Chamber of Commerce has partnered with the Johnson County Public Policy Council, the Kansas City, Kan., Chamber of Commerce and other Johnson County chambers of commerce to present two community forums next month concerning national legislative candidates in this fall's election.

A forum in the U.S. Senate race between incumbent Republican Sen. Pat Roberts and Democratic challenger Jim Slattery will take place Oct. 15 at the Marriott Overland Park, 10800 Metcalf Avenue.

A forum for the 3rd Congressional District will feature incumbent Dennis Moore, D-Lenexa, and State Sen. Nick Jordan, R-Shawnee, and will take place Oct. 22 at the Sheraton Overland Park, 6100 College Boulevard.

For both forums, check-in is at 11:30 a.m., and the lunch and forum are set from noon to 1:30 p.m. Tickets are $28 per forum for chamber members, $35 for nonmembers and $320 for a reserved table of 10. Reservations must be received by Oct. 8 for the Roberts-Slattery forum, and by Oct. 15 for the Moore-Jordan forum. No reservations will be taken at the door.

To make a reservation, call the Shawnee chamber at 631-6545 or the Overland Park chamber at 491-3600, or fill out and turn in the online forms available at shawneekschamber.com.

Talking points

Do you think Veterans Day should be a prominent holiday?

Absolutely. We wouldn’t be able to sit here and eat lunch like this if it weren’t for the veterans. We’ve got millions of people that fought and died to save this country; it should be more than a bank holiday.
