Numerous Jags have career day at Tongie Invitational

Mill Valley's Meredith Brooks pushes toward the finish line on Tuesday at the Tonganoxie Invitational. Brooks finished fourth in the 4K race in 16:20.
Numerous personal records were set on Tuesday as the Mill Valley girls finished second and the boys placed third at the Tonganoxie Invitational cross country meet.
In all, 18 Jaguars set personal-best times at the meet.
Meredith Brooks, the top Mill Valley girl and fourth-place finisher overall, covered the 4K course in 16:20. Teammate Katie Strickland, the ninth-place overall finisher, also set a personal-best time of 16:57.
Wamego's Breanna Briggs was the meet champion in 15:29 and her also finished first.
Also for Mill Valley, Chelsea Pfannenstiel was 12th in 17:13, Kelsey Strobel was 33rd in a personal-best time of 18:08, Kyndra Zeigler was 35th in 18:12, Sarah Shaw was 43rd in 18:46 and Rayanna Gossett was 59th in 19:51.
In the boys' race, Tyler Gude was the top Jaguar runner. He covered the 5K course in a personal-best time of 17:23. Other personal records were turned in by Jacob Rohrer (13th, 17:34), Ryan Hodges (25th, 18:30) and Ryan Howes (46th, 19:07). Rounding out the Mill Valley lineup were Oliver Parsons (16th, 17:50) and Zack McQuiston (42nd, 18:56).
Wamego's Riley Woodward was the meet champion in 16:03, and his team also placed first.
The successes ran deeper for Mill Valley than just the varsity race.
Six junior varsity girls and two junior varsity boys earned medalist honors. For the girls, Ariel May finished second in 19:02; Eileen Orloff, Yessenia Rizo and Tara Heinrich were fifth, sixth and seventh - all in 19:42 - and Brigitte Clark was 14th in 20:04. For the boys, Connor Mehalovich was fifth in 19:15 and Chad Harper was 13th in 20:00.
The Jaguars will look to build on Tuesday's performance when they race on Saturday at the Rim Rock Farm Invitational in Lawrence. The course is the site of the Class 5A and 6A state championships.

Do you think it is important for Shawnee to be bicycle-friendly?
I think it’s important. I do love and use the paths, but it would be nice to have lanes so we could use bikes to run errands - saving gas!
