Mill Valley splits with BLHS
An early morning thunderstorm didn’t stop Mill Valley from playing Basehor-Linwood on Thursday, although a venue change was in order.
The game was moved from BLHS to the 3&2 District Complex. Basehor won the opener, 3-2, but Mill Valley came back in the nightcap for a 9-3.
Mill Valley struggled to make consistent contact against Tyler Henley in game one as five of the first six batters struck out. The Jaguars got a brief moment of momentum in the top of the third inning when Chad Perkins got a leadoff single and later scored, giving MVHS a 1-0 lead.
Basehor answered in the bottom of the inning as Henley smacked a leadoff single and eventually came around to score.
The Bobcats plated two more runs in the fourth inning for a 3-1 lead. Mill Valley got a run back in the top of the fifth as Matt Westin belted a leadoff triple and scored on a grounder by J.J. Grovenburg.
Mill Valley mustered just five hits in the game, and Basehor had seven hits.
The Jaguars did an about face in game two as they came out swinging from the beginning. Grovenburg ripped a leadoff single, Jacob Spring followed with a base hit and Curtis Peavler added another. John Theis brought Grovenburg and Spring home with a single, and Alex Wilson brought home Peavler with a single for a 3-0 lead.
Grovenburg singled and scored again in the second inning, extending the Mill Valley lead to 4-0.
Basehor chipped away at the lead by scoring a run in both the third and fourth innings to pull within 4-2, but Mill Valley struck back in the fifth inning as Bennett Ratzloff, Wilson and Luke Jenkins all singled and scored, extending the lead to 7-2. Mill Valley never looked back as it cruised to the victory.
