Curbside recycling in focus during series of meetings
The city of Shawnee has planned three meetings to discuss curbside recycling. At the meetings, city staff will provide a brief history of curbside recycling and the process for deciding the future of curbside recycling in Shawnee. Johnson County Environmental Health staff also will discuss the County’s Solid Waste Plan, including a possible yard waste ban from the landfill.
The meetings are planned for approximately 90 minutes. The public is encouraged to attend one of the following:
• Thursday, Jan. 15, 3:30 p.m. at the Civic Centre, 13817 Johnson Drive.
• Saturday, Jan. 17, 9 a.m. at City Hall, 11110 Johnson Drive.
• Wednesday, Jan. 21, 6:30 p.m. at Monticello Trails Middle School, 6100 Monticello Road.
Additionally, Mayor Jeff Meyers is looking for volunteers to serve on a task force to examine the issues surrounding curbside recycling and to develop recommendations for the Shawnee City Council to consider.
Residents who are interested should attend one of the informational meetings or contact Vicki Charlesworth, assistant city manager, 742-6242.
