18 from Shawnee complete Ironman Kansas

Shawnee resident Joshua Wolf was the top local finisher in the Ironman Kansas race on Sunday, June 14, at Clinton Lake State Park in Lawrence.
Wolf placed 79th overall and 13th in the men’s 25-29 division in 4:33.07. The 70.3-mile race began with a 1.2-mile swim, followed by a 56-mile bike ride and a 13.1-mile run.
Luke Bell of Australia was the overall men’s winner in 3:49.35. Chrissie Wellington of Great Britain was the women’s champion in 4:14.52.
Including Wolf, 18 Shawnee residents completed the race. Brett Cikanek was 310th overall in 5:03.46; Scott Kinner was 391st in 5:10.24; Brian Jenkins finished 401st in 5:11.05; Steve Hoffman finished 435th in 5:14.17; Shawn Knight was 453rd in 5:15.33; Matt Waters placed 481st in 5:18.24; David Palmer finished 627th in 5:31.57; Matt Pellman was 779th in 5:45.08; Derick Shackelford finished 811th in 5:48.06; Carlo Jurani was 853rd in 5:51.09; David Dawson placed 856th in 5:51.37; Scott Wilde was 1,094th in 6:13.58; Christian Kelly was 1,225th in 6:32.26; James Swanson was 1,343rd in 6:54.56; Chris Baranczuk finished 1,417th in 7:21.48; Lynn Flora placed 1,467th in 7:53.21 and Stephen Gore finished 1,489th in 8:37.15.

Do you think it is important for Shawnee to be bicycle-friendly?
I think it’s important. I do love and use the paths, but it would be nice to have lanes so we could use bikes to run errands - saving gas!
