Letter: Strange questions

July 1, 2009

To the editor:

Some say history is a collection of names and dates. But I say, history is the story of what really happened. It takes a while to learn the real story, but usually it all comes out. Still, some questions continue to nag and gnaw at us.

• Did Warren G. Harding really die from eating some "bad seafood?" If you were the owner of a Vancouver seafood restaurant, with access to the freshest and finest catches of the Pacific Northwest, would you serve the president of the United States tainted, poisonous crab legs? Why did no one else in the dinner party become ill? Why was there no autopsy?

• Did Anne Morrow Lindbergh know who killed her son? She had to have known. The governor of the state knew, and threw away his political career by trying to save the innocent man.

• Could Lee Harvey Oswald possibly have acted alone? Today, most people of the world believe he did not.

• Did Marilyn Monroe, acting alone, commit suicide? There are serious doubts.

• Who murdered Pope John Paul I, and why? Who benefited from it?

• What happened to all those pieces of the Berlin Wall? And now, guess what? It's already the 21st Century!

• How did George Bush get elected, twice?

• How many people will die before we escape from Afghanistan? The jury is still out.

• Who is really behind the Monticello Road Affair? With each passing day, this question nags and gnaws at more of us.

Point of View

Do you think it is important for Shawnee to be bicycle-friendly?

I think it’s important. I do love and use the paths, but it would be nice to have lanes so we could use bikes to run errands - saving gas!
