Letter to the editor: Humanitarian action
To the editor:
I read recently in a local blog that Shawnee Council member Michelle Distler donated 14 inches of her hair to “Locks of Love.” “Locks of Love” is a nonprofit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children under the age of 18 suffering from a long-term medical condition.
It is a great humanitarian and a very selfless thing that Council member Distler has done. Folks in Shawnee should be very proud of her being a leader for the City of Shawnee.
A few years ago my daughter also donated her hair to “Locks of Love” so I know what it takes to let your hair grow for years then cut it off and give it away. It is not an easy thing to do.
Because of Michelle some child somewhere will not have to face life without hair due to a medical condition.
I applaud Michelle Distler for her genuine love to help others.
