Library featured on Web site
Johnson County Library is the first public library to be highlighted in the monthly Depository Library Spotlight on the Federal Depository Library Program Web site, fdlp.gov, and is featured in the July issue.
Citing Johnson County Library staff for making government information relevant and available to users through “outreach and more outreach,” the article describes the library’s special Web pages about useful government information, an annual GovFest for business owners and would-be entrepreneurs, and staff leadership in the GovDoc Kids Group that sponsors the annual Constitution Day Poster Contest.
Government Documents Librarian Martha Childers organizes the annual GovFest, which won an Achievement Award from the National Association of Counties in 2008. She coordinates the library’s tax forms, tax volunteers, and tax information that helped more than 5,000 patrons in the library system during the 2009 tax season. She also writes a library Web site blog about researching government information and tax tips.
Childers is a founder and chairman of the GovDocs Kids Group, a multistate group of information professionals who engage with and provide resources about U.S. Government to K-12 students, teachers and librarians.
