June 17, 2009

Tim Needham, of Shawnee, has earned his Eagle Scout award, the highest honor in Boy Scouts.

Tim, who graduated last month from Mill Valley High School, is a member of Troop 247.

For his Eagle Scout project, Tim planned and directed Scouts and adults in the building of a transportation and storage cart for a computerized telescope at University of Missouri-Kansas City. The telescope can now be safely transported for educational programs in the area.

Tim has earned 37 merit badges and served in most leadership positions in his troop. In addition, Tim is a member of the Order of the Arrow, and a Tom Tom Beater in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say. Prior to joining Troop 247, he was a Cub Scout in Pack 3253 at Bluejacket-Flint Elementary School.

At Mill Valley, Tim was a member of the 2009 5A State Champion Quiz Bowl team. He participated in student government, the science olympiad program and FIRST Robotics team. He plans to attend college.

Point of View

Do you think it is important for Shawnee to be bicycle-friendly?

I think it’s important. I do love and use the paths, but it would be nice to have lanes so we could use bikes to run errands - saving gas!
