Debbie Heitman shares a little bit about herself in this week's Neighbors column.

Place of birth: Atchison, Kan.
Q: When did you move to Shawnee, and what brought you here?
A: We moved back to Kansas in June of 2006 to be near my brother, who got married and was going to be starting a family. I missed longtime friends. Ray Marsh Elementary was the school I wanted the kids to attend, so Shawnee it was.

A: An accountant
Q: What’s the biggest risk you’ve ever taken?
A: Deciding within a month to sell our Florida home and move my family back to Kansas.
Q:What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
A: Karma, do unto others, as you want done to yourself.
Q:What three things would you want people to know about you?
A: My most favorite thing to do is cook, especially for others.
I like volunteering for things with my kids’ school and other activities (Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, PTA, church).
I had gastric bypass surgery and when I lost the weight and got healthy, that’s when I became pregnant.
Q:What’s your ideal vacation spot?
A: A cruise ship

Point of View
Do you think it is important for Shawnee to be bicycle-friendly?
I think it’s important. I do love and use the paths, but it would be nice to have lanes so we could use bikes to run errands - saving gas!
